The Florida Historical Society was established in 1902, incorporated in 1905. It was the successor to the Historical Society of Florida. Historian Julien Chandler Yonge was editor of the Florida Historical Quarterly, 1925-1955, and Director of the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History, 1944-1958. He was born and educated in Pensacola, Florida. Poor health prevented completion of his college degree. He collected Florida history materials and became a leader in the Florida Historical Society.
